Dr. Tanya Williams is the Coordinator of Attendance and Truancy for Baltimore City Public Schools. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Howard University and a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Baltimore. She was awarded a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University in Washington, D.C. In 2002, Williams was hired as a school psychologist by City Schools where she provided psychological, counseling, intervention and assessment services to students with academic, emotional, or behavioral issues. After five years Williams moved to City Schools central office and worked to ensure that students attend school on time every day. Additionally, she has diligently researched national and local best practices around dropout prevention, student engagement, and barriers that deter regular student attendance such as bullying. In addition to teaching various psychological courses at local colleges and universities, Williams has facilitated trainings for school staff, parents, and community members on a dropout prevention, ways to encourage student attendance, social skills, and bullying prevention.
